Grace Wooten is an associate attorney whose practice focuses on construction law, construction defect claims, motion practice, and other related civil litigation. She mostly handles pre-suit matters involving owners, contractors, and other project stakeholders in disputes involving defects, contracts, and property-related issues. Additionally, Grace supports the firm’s writing needs by drafting motions, demands, discovery requests, and discovery responses. Grace is licensed to practice law in both Texas and Colorado.
Just prior to joining Lovein Ribman, Grace worked as an associate attorney to defend contractors in general construction disputes. She conducted depositions, mediations, drafted Motions for Summary Judgment, and drafted Responses to Motions for Summary Judgment.
Grace began her career as an Assistant Public Defender for the state of Colorado. She gained extensive litigation experience in this role. Grace tried two jury trials, prepared many cases for trial, appeared in court almost daily, and conducted a variety of hearings. Grace has prepared and argued Motions to Suppress, Motions in Limine, Motions to Quash, Motions for Brady Violations, Pre-Trial hearings, and Probation Violation hearings.
In addition to her criminal law and construction experience, Grace drafted partnership agreements, Deeds of Trust, promissory notes, Non-Disclosure Agreements, residential leases, commercial leases, and created Texas business entities.
Grace earned her Juris Doctor from SMU Dedman School of Law, where she sharpened her writing skills as the Managing Editor of the Journal of Air Law and Commerce of SMU’s main Law Review. During law school, Grace drafted position statements for the EEOC at a corporate externship. Grace’s experience also includes more than a year of judicial internships, where she drafted judicial opinions, drafted bench memos, and observed countless proceedings in federal court. During her last year of law school, Grace handled her own caseload of clients under a provisional bar card in SMU’s Criminal Law Clinic. Lastly, Grace worked as an academic success mentor, due in part to her own academic success. She mentored approximately fifty students over a two year period.
Grace received her Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of North Texas in Economics. Notably, Grace focused her studies on law and economics and was a member of the Honors College.
Outside of practicing law, Grace enjoys pottery, sewing, and hiking.
